Memory?

Post by lineamovil »

Hello, I have been trying to find if someone had the same problem Im having.

I have a dedicated server, with 4GB of RAM and 500GB in HD. Windows Server 2008

I have only installed AwareIM ver. 5.1
I have so far 3 Business spaces, but only 1 in Test mode.
My memory configuration in AwareIM control panel is:
AwareIm Server: 256
Tomcat: 256
JBoss: 256
Configuration Tool 256

Im using MySQL (XAMPP)

So far this 1 Business space working at the most 2,000 records in some 20 BO
I have 10 users at the most

The problem is that since 2 days ago, the software wasnt able to conect, and I had to restart. Now I have to restart every day. That wasnt happening.

Any guess?

Thank you!!!

Physical or Virtual dedicated server? What to the logs say?

Maybe unrelated, but I had similar issues and (as Aware_Support said all long) the issue was indeed related to my infrastructure, but as it turned out it was actually a problem on the VPS platform, not the server. I was using GoDaddy, I moved to a physical server and have not had a single issue since.

old issue

hi,

if you are using awareim on a VPS (windows 03/08) etc...

we had same issues were as

1) we logged into the vps via RDP (console) with many sessions
2) Windows updates ran and caused this issue

our solution seemed to be to only allow 1 logged in user and then "log off" of the user profile before disconnecting from RDP.

Hi Nlarson,

Could you share what your problem was with the vps environment because I have been having the same issues as lineamovil

Having said that, lineamovils issue could be memory related, I would give AwareIm as much as you can - say 640mb, Tomcat and jBoss probably only need 128mb - but if you really have 4gb physical memory ( as opposed to virtual or burst able) memory, it won't do any harm to leave them as they are

Wyou will see significant performance improvements the more memory you allocate to AwareIM

rocketman - yes we have VPS box's hosted by Rackspace and EC2, the problem was.

if someone RDP'ed port 3389 into the server from location A and opened the Configuration Tool and then "disconnected" , then someone logs into RDP from location B

OR

windows updates were processed while not logged in as console, then disconnect

OR

you had a memory allocation of Tomcat +2048 megs

THEN

You could not start AwareIM

I do not fully understand the root cause, but when Aware went down so did my Remote connection, so it was clearly not an Aware Event.

The key difference is the RDC would try to reconnect and 3-5 seconds later would be successful, Aware once dead needed a restart.

anecdotal evidence, but it's worth noting that all folks reporting this issue are on Virtual platforms.

That (Aware dying when network connectivity lost) ties in with what the installation guide says. Just wondered whether you had any feedback from your provider as to why the vps environment should be particularly susceptible to this dying problem

Support, Anything in the pipeline that might help AwareIM resurrect itself - but preferably quicker than 3 Days.

Sorry - couldn't resist the pun

Sorry, godaddy wasn't too forthcoming with info.

If you have Aware installed as a service you could create a jump start service with little simple exe which poles the server periodically and if the result 'not responding' then fire a .bat with the following:

NET STOP Aware
NET STOP Tomcat
NET START Tomcat
NET START Aware

"AwareIm Server: 256
Tomcat: 256
JBoss: 256
Configuration Tool 256 "

sorry but this is really low if you want to have the server run properly, furthermore in a VPS... I'd recommend at least 1024 MB for all settings, I personally use 2048 MB and have noticed a drastically improvement.

I have been really happy with Codero - they have many specials going now, like Xeon Quad Core 3.2 GHz 8MB L3 and 4GB+ ram for like 120USD/month.
