Font Awesome 5

Post by customaware »

Has anyone managed to get Font Awesome 5 working in Aware yet?

If so, how?
Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark.

From what I remember you can download the font awesome 5 zip and copy all the files in the /svg-with-js/js folder into AwareIM/Tomcat/webapps/AwareIM/Custom/JS folder. I think it works without restarting anything too. Just be careful, it could break some of the FA 4 stuff (names changed and what not).

If that doesn't work I'll check what else I might have done.

(EDIT) I think you need to copy the file in /svg-with-js/css to AwareIM/Tomcat/webapps/AwareIM/Custom/CSS too.

Do you think we can pre-package version 5 with the 8.1 release?

+1, but what if you buy v5 Pro. Ther are a lot of nice icons in the pro version not included in the free version.

Exactly Roger.

I was a Kickstarter funder for Pro and would love to see it just part of Aware 8.1

There are too many changes in Font Awesome 5 - all your existing icons will stop working unless Aware IM automatically converts them to a new format.
For 8.1 we have decided not to do this and so not to integrate the new version.

That is really disappointing on FA side.

I wonder if there is a 4 replaced by 5 document - otherwise they’ve created a dead end hurdle to FA4 users

That's really weird.. My v4 ones still work and I can use v5 ones. A few of my icons became rotating question marks, but 90% were still fine.

I am going to try your method right now Steve.

Can you confirm this is correct.....

Copy the file in /svg-with-js/css to AwareIM/Tomcat/webapps/AwareIM/Custom/CSS too.

and the right call is fal fa-icon rather than fa fa-icon?
Cheers,
Mark

Copy both the JS and the CSS files to their respective folders in AwareIM/Tomcat/webapps/AwareIM/Custom/.

With regards to the call, see what breaks and just fix those. A lot will still work.

Yep!..

Works perfectly.

fas fa-adjust = Solid Version
far fa-adjust = Regular Version
fal fa-adjust = Light Version

Thanx Steve.

No reason that V5 (free) could not be installed like this as default in Aware I wouldnt imagine.
Cheers,
Mark

Guys, I was in a meeting today, and one of the developers suggested FA5 for the UI of their next project and suggested Shawn's free course. I know Shawn for over 10 years and he is a great instructor.

Here is the link, signup and enjoy the course.

UPDATE:
Well guys, I went through the course, what a great and educational course for FREE.
